CONGRATULATIONS

You will be participating in the 10th annual running of Marathon Bahamas, Half or Relay. Thank you for choosing our winter event and we know that the historic and scenic course and Bahamian Hospitality will absolutely amaze you as you make your trek to the finish line with runners from around the world!

These instructions are meant to provide you with information to enhance your Marathon Bahamas experience

KOMEN BAHAMAS 5K

Need a pre-race tune-up? Consider participating in the 9th annual Komen Bahamas Race For The Cure on Saturday, January 19. Race Starts at 7:00 am from Montagu Beach and finishes on Paradise Island.

HEALTH & FITNESS EXPO

Saturday, January 19

Melia Nassau Resort, Cable Beach

3:00 to 7:00 pm

You MUST attend the expo to pick up your race packet which will include your performance tech shirt, bib number, timing chip and a goodie bag.

You MUST bring a copy of your ID to pick up your packet and be prepared to show it to volunteer personnel who will distributing race materials.

If you cannot attend the expo, a family member or friend can pick up the packet, on your behalf, providing they have a copy of your ID.

The timing chip is attached to the back of the bib. DO NOT REMOVE IT.

IF space is available, you can register for an event at the expo. The expo is the location to arrange for one-way or round-trip day-of-race, transportation.

PRE-RACE DINING OPTIONS

Marathon Bahamas does not host a pasta party; however, we have secured favorable special offers for your pre-race dining consideration.

MARATHON, HALF, RELAY

Sunday, January 20

6:00 am

Starting Line: Junkanoo Beach

Two blocks west of downtown Nassau

Finish Line: Arawak Cay

Four blocks west of downtown Nassau

PARKING

There is ample FREE parking near the start/finish lines at Fort Charlotte and the surrounding side streets.

It is recommended that you plan to arrive by 5:00 am as there could be some congestion with runners, spectators and volunteers all seeking parking.

Please give yourself enough time so as not to be rushing to the starting line.

As the northern West Bay and Cable Beach streets will be closed for the duration of the event, all traffic will be diverted to the southern streets.

COURSE HOURS

The course, for all events, is open for 6.0 hours from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm. From the western area, the course will open gradually with the last runner if within the allotted time.

If you are still on the course and wish to finish (but not within the course time), you will be required to move to the sidewalk.

Runners are asked to find their place in the corrals according to their running pace. There will be signs in the corrals marking the race paces. Course map is available at the expo as well as on the event pages of marathonbahamas.com

Gear Check

The gear check will be located at the junction of Nassau and Bay Streets (immediately west of the starting line).

A portion of the bottom tab of your bib will serve as your gear check tab and is to be attached to your bag which corresponds with your bib number. Your checked gear will be delivered to the finish line area and available for pick up post race.

You are responsible for your own gear check bag

We recommend that you use your Swag Bag you received at the expo

AID STATIONS

Aid stations will be at every mile after mile 1. Port-o-lets are located approximately every four miles along the route.

GU gel is available at mile 10 for the half marathon; miles 16 and 22 for the marathon. There will be three medical stations, along the course, with basic first aid.

Authorized cyclists will be on the course, monitoring participants who may require attention.

TIMING

Marathon Bahamas uses Champion Chip Timing System to accurately time the race and quickly provide day of, race result.

Your timing chip will be affixed to the bib.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your bib is worn with the chip attached.

No chip. No time!

The bibs are disposable and non-transferable.

RELAY PARTICIPANTS

Relay exchange zones are:

#1. McDonalds, in front of Hilton downtown (10K)

#2. West of Delaporte, east of Sun Fun Resort (13.1M/21K)

#3. Caves Heights, east of Blake Road (30K)

Exchanges must be through the chutes. Timing and zone officials will be present. It is your responsibility to get to the exchange zones in a timely manner. Limited transportation is provided for students and international participants.

AWARDS

Commemorative awards will be given out, based on chip time. Marathon and Half Marathon awards will be for the overall winners and age group categrories starting at under 19 and in five-year increments to 70 and older. Relay Awards will follow immediately thereafter.

Half Marathon Awards Ceremony: 10:30 am

Marathon Awards Ceremony: 11:00 am

Relay Awards Ceremony: 11:30 am

There will be multiple prize drawings including: the grand prize of a two-night stay at The Cove Atlantis inclusive of breakfast at Mosaic for two. You must be present to win.

At the close of the event, there will be a Junkanoo performance, which is a MUST experience.

FINISH LINE

A celebration of your achievement!

The race finishes at Arawak Cay but do not just stop. Hang out at the beach for runner’s refreshments and post-race festivities. You do not want to miss Junkanoo! Revel in your accomplishments along with other runners!

Make sure you spread the word to your family and friends so that they can get the chance to participate in one or both of the weekend events.
