Marathon Bahamas Relay Sold Out
For the first time in its seven-year history, Marathon Bahamas has sold out its relay event.
Sunshine Insurance, which is the lead sponsor and organizer of the Sunshine Insurance Race Weekend (SIRW), announced Tuesday that the relay had reached its cap of 100 teams.
Four hundred participants will run the relay on Sunday, January 17 at 6:00 a.m.
The bulk of the teams is coming from Urban Renewal, which is providing 50 teams; the Scotiabank-sponsored Student Run Marathon Bahamas, will have 21 school teams run and the remaining teams are coming from various national and international organizations.
Sunshine Insurance VP of Development, Dwayne Swaby says his organization could not be more pleased about the event selling out.
“This is big news for us. We’re especially happy to have so many students taking part in our relays. We can’t wait to see those young folks at the start line,” said Mr. Swaby.
“I know quite a few people will be disappointed that they can’t run the relay, but they can still participate in our other events. There’s still time to snap up remaining spots in the marathon and half marathon. Again, we urge residents not to wait until the last minute as there are international participants who are eager for those spots as well. We look forward to seeing everyone out there on Race Day.”
Marathon Bahamas, which was listed by Runners World as one of the top 50 marathons outside the UK, recently won a Tourism Impact Award, beating out Battle 4 Atlantis and Bahamas Speed Week.
Race Weekend takes place January 16-17 and kicks off with the 6th Annual Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure®.
