Susan G, Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure® 5K 2015 – Registration Now Open

Sunshine Insurance, in its role as the lead sponsor and organizer for Marathon Bahamas and with their strategic partnership with the Susan G. Komen Organization has now officially launched its registration drive for the January 17, 2015 event.

Early-bird registration fees are $30 for adults and $15 for children under 12. Online and mail-in registration is now available at http://marathonbahamas.com/. In-person registration is available at Sunshine Insurance Offices (East Shirley Street and Blue Hill Road). To take advantage of the early registration offer, runners must register by November 15, 2014 when the fees increase incrementally to event day.

On January 17, thousands of runners and walkers, adults and children, will descend at Montagu Beach for the 7:00 am start of the 3.1-mile trek to Paradise Island with a dramatic finish east of the Paradise Island Police Station where Race Village will be staged with vendors, demonstrations and entertainment.

Participating in the 5th Annual Race for the Cure ® with a team multiplies the fun, the laughter and maybe even the tears that you share on Race Day.
Rally around someone you know who was just diagnosed, someone who has fought the battle, or someone who may have lost the battle. Together, with your friends, family and co-workers, you make an even greater impact than you could alone. The Team Captain must register first and create the team before team members can join the team. A team is comprised of 10or more individuals. Teammates can be friends, family members, co-workers, or anyone else who would like to join. Costumes are encouraged. Teams can vie for one of three awards: largest, most energetic or most creative.

The highlight of the event is the Survivors Ceremony where we celebrate survivorship and remember those who we have lost to the dreaded disease. All participating survivors receive a ‘finisher’ medal, special shirt, VIP attention, and participation in the Ceremony and lots of love.

Awards are for the overall, masters, overall survivor and five-year age-group winners, male and females starting from 10-11 categories.

The named beneficiaries for the weekend of events are: The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Sister Sister Beast Cancer Support Group, Bahamas Breast Cancer Initiative and the Cancer Society of Grand Bahama. 100% of the proceeds stay within The Bahamas. To date, more than $300,000 have been donated to the charities.

In addition to the title sponsor of Sunshine Insurance, the event enjoys ongoing sponsorship from Atlantis, Emera, GU, Gatorade, Sports Center, Scotiabank, Royal Bank of Canada, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Sports, Bahamas Waste, BTC amongst others.
